Silver Eagle Outfitters Donates Cooling Garments to Middle Tennessee Medical Center Multiple Sclerosis Exercise Program
HUNTSVILLE, Alabama-March 25, 2004-Silver Eagle Outfitters, LLC, pioneers of recreational evaporative cooling apparel and products for workplace and recreational purposes, announces its efforts in supporting the Middle Tennessee Medical Center's PACE Center exercise program for individuals suffering from multiple sclerosis. Participants will use the hats and vests donated by Silver Eagle to maintain their body temperatures while performing exercises designed to alleviate MS symptoms.
Multiple Sclerosis is a neurological disease that effects over 400,000 Americans, with an estimated 10,400 people diagnosed on a yearly basis. MS is characterized by a disruption of nerve impulses traveling from the brain to the body along the central nervous system. Abnormal-fatigue, loss of coordination, balance, and hindered vision, speech, and bowel and bladder control are all possible symptoms of the disease.
"Our goal is to empower people with a sense of control over their bodies that the diagnosis of MS seems to take away," said Tim Haddock, who was diagnosed with MS in 2001 and has served as a driving force in starting the exercise program.
Haddock's own experience with MS is what inspired him to start the program. After 21 years as a machinist, Haddock's diagnosis came with a sense of denial and frustration that caused him to postpone treatment. As his symptoms progressed, "I decided that I had to do something about it. So, I started small and worked my way up," he said. After starting medications and becoming a certified fitness trainer, Haddock worked with doctors and volunteers at the MTMC to begin the exercise classes. Additionally, Haddock, along with Tommy Waddell, a sports psychologist who has worked closely with Haddock through the program's setup, will instruct the classes.
"The [Silver Eagle] vests are primarily available for people who have more of a problem with heat intolerance. The area where the class is held will be temperature controlled, but there will also be several activated vests ready for anyone who needs immediate cooling," said Haddock.
"Not only are we seeing more studies that stress the importance of cooling in reducing the effects MS symptoms, but we are actually hearing it from customers who are using our products," said Silver Eagle Outfitters Cofounder, Bill Case. "As we have learned about the similar importance of exercise in MS, it seems that our cooling garments go hand-and-hand with the PACE Center's efforts."
The classes will begin on April 6, 2004, at the MTMC Pace Center, 611 E. Lytle Street, Murfreesboro, Tennessee 37130. For More information on class times and dates, contact Tim Haddock or Jason Anderson at 615-896-0290.
About Silver Eagle Outfitters Cooling Apparel: Silver Eagle garments are made with a specially constructed, three-layer fabric composite to offer ultra-lightweight cooling relief. Activated in minutes by tap water, the products use evaporative technology to cool the wearer for two to eight hours, depending on the climate and environmental conditions. Water is held tightly in special fibers inside the apparel and released through evaporation to produce a gentle cooling over an extended time period, while a water-resistant inner lining pulls heat away from the body, keeping the wearer cool and dry. Fully activated, Silver Eagle apparel remains lightweight and breathable, allowing the wearer full range of motion and consistent comfort.
