Loading... Please wait...No. The two-sided inner layer in all the garments, which can be worn against the skin or over clothing, has a conductive, breathable lining on one side and a water-resistant barrier on the other to keep the skin dry.
While the components of the fabric work to keep the moisture that is added to the vest away from your skin, it is common that water drops will bead on the surface fabric of your Silver Eagle garments following activation. When this occurs, you can towel-dry or shake out any of this excess. *One of our customers contacted us with a great way to avoid this excess moisture: "After the vest is soaked, roll it in a towel to get rid of the excess. Works a treat." Scott - Spain
While we do not guarantee a particular amount of time that the vests will remain cool (it varies depending on the activity and other conditions), we do guarantee your satisfaction with the garment. Please take a moment to learn more about our guarantee.
The good thing about the fabric in our vests is that it offers subtle cooling that reduces your body temperature without setting your body in that "panic mode" that ice packs and frozen vests stand the potential to do. Freezing the vest or adding ice packs may enhance the cooling feeling but will not increase the cooling benefits.
The cooling depends somewhat on the ambient air temperature, the air flow, and the amount of humidity. In many cases it's about 20 degrees cooler under the fabric than the outside air, so it's a gentle cooling. We have hats of it also, and we use an indoor/outdoor thermometer at outdoor trade shows, and notice the temperature under the hat staying around 68-70 when it's in the nineties. The vests are made of the same material.
All of our vests are lightweight and do not gain bulk when activated. This is a result of the two kinds of polymers that compose the material's inner batting: one that absorbs water, and one that repels water. Because of this design, only the right amount of water will be absorbed to enable maximum cooling without drippy wetness.
The precise weight depends on the size and type of vest. The weight of a size large zip-front vest is less than one pound. The interior batting generally absorbs no more than 16-18 ounces of water, leaving the activated vest-weight at approximately 1.5 lbs. This would be about the same or less for the Classic Vest.
Refrigeration will result in an initial coldness that will dissipate fairly quickly. The products are designed to provide gentle cooling for hours through evaporative cooling without requiring refrigeration.
No. Silver Eagle evaporative cooling products should NOT be frozen. Freezing temperatures can cause vascular constriction and can affect the body's ability to shed heat. Freezing the vest or adding ice packs may enhance the cooling feeling but will not increase the cooling benefits.

Yes. All of our products are unaffected by the the puncturing process of adding patchwork and embroidery, as we use a specially blended batting as the core of our evaporative cooling fabric rather than crystals or gels. Additionally, all of our vests and blankets can be altered as desired without compromising their effectiveness.
The best way to determine what size you need in any of our products is to take the appropriate measurements and compare them to the size charts available for each product.
Vests: All Silver Eagle cooling vests should fit snugly against the body, but not so tight that movement is restricted. Because the fabric does not swell or get bulky or heavy when activated, the size of the vest when activated is no different than when it is dry.
T-Shirts: Silver Eagle's loose fit Performance Gear is designed for a comfortable relaxed fit and offers a generous cut.
Animal Products: We base all of our cooling dog vest/jacket sizes on the dog's top-length (length from the neck to the base of the tail), girth, and neck measurements. Each vest is fitted to the girth of the canine using the Velcro strap(s) available on the garment.
Headwear: Please note that our caps and neck shades are "one size fits most" and can be adjusted to fit most head sizes. For our hats and helmet liners, sizes are based on measurement. Using a tape measure, determine the circumference of your head to the nearest 1/8 of an inch. To do this, measure across the widest part of the head, above the eyebrows and ears. Then, use the size charts to convert this measurement to the correct hat or liner size.
The vest will actively cool you whether you wear it against the skin, over a T-shirt, or under any garments that offer some amount of airflow (so that the evaporation has some place to escape). If you are riding in a really dry environment, a jacket can aide in keeping the vest from drying out too quickly; however, it is not necessary for the cooling process.
Please note: We suggest that you do not wear the activated vest beneath a leather jacket, as the dense fabric will prevent the evaporative moisture from escaping. This can result in poor cooling results and possible damage to your leather garment.
Our do-rags are made with our cooling 3-layer cooling fabric, which require you add moisture for the evaporative process. These work well when worn alone (without a helmet). The issue of wearing the do-rag beneath a helmet has been raised numerous times, and it all boils down to the following considerations:
If you choose to have either headwear item activated (you can soak them and store them in a water-tight/zip-lock bag) and ready-to-wear as soon as you have your helmet off (as many of our customers do), the choice of which is the better style is a matter of your personal preference...
The helmet liner is made with our moisture wicking microfiber. It is silky soft and ultra thin, so it will fit under the tightest of helmets. The fabric will continuously wick moisture away from your head and quickly evaporates the moisture, helping to keep your head dry and to prevent the itchiness associated with helmet head.
